The water immersion method is suitable for determining the apparent relative density or apparent density of dense Type I asphalt mixture specimens that exhibit little water absorption.
When the test specimen is very dense and there are almost no open pores connected to the outside, the apparent relative density measured by this method can be used to replace the bulk relative density measured by the T 0705 surface drying method, and based on this, various volumetric indicators such as the void ratio and mineral aggregate void ratio of the asphalt mixture test specimen can be calculated.
